Why have I been referred?
Children are usually referred by a doctor, teacher, school psychologist, or other professional because of one or more problems, such as:
- Difficulties with learning
- Trouble paying attention or remembering
- Delays in motor skills, speech, or problem solving skills
- Problems controlling behavior or acting out
- Brain injury from an accident or illness that may have changed how the child thinks and behaves
Common reasons for referral include:
- Developmental delay in one or more areas (speech, motor, socialization, self-care skills)
- Autism/Asperger’s
- Learning disability (LD)
- Memory disorder
- ADHD (formerly ADD)
- Alcohol/drug abuse
- Concussion/brain injury
- Seizures
- Brain tumor
- Metabolic disorders
- Anxiety disorder
- Depression
- Conduct (behavior) problems
